I have an ongoing fear of shoving my £2000 Nikon into an underwater housing and then swimming around getting battered by waves, but doing exactly this for the last two weeks around the Mentawai Islands has convinced me that it’s all worth it. Particularly when all the elements combine and a shot like this happens – late afternoon silhouette lighting, fun-sized rippable waves and a perfectly timed hack. Two weeks in to a one month trip and the photo count is already up in the thousands, but so far this is my favourite shot of the trip.
